Privacy Policy
Back to the Story · Effective September 27, 2026
What we collect
Nothing. Back to the Story has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. We do not operate any servers that receive data from the app.
Your books and files
Books you add are stored in the app on your device. Reading and listening positions and settings are also stored only on your device. If you choose a file from iCloud Drive, Apple handles that download under its own privacy policy.
Text to Speech
Speech is generated entirely on your iPhone. The text of your books is never sent anywhere to be read aloud.
The first time you set up Text to Speech, the app downloads voice files from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). This is a plain file download: no information about you or your books is sent. As with any web request, Hugging Face can see your device's IP address.
Creating a voice
If you choose Create a Voice and record yourself, the app uses the microphone only for that recording. The recording and the voice made from it stay on your iPhone and are never uploaded.
Cover search
When editing a book, you can tap a button to search for a cover image. This opens a Google Image search for the book's title and author in your browser. It only happens when you tap that button, and Google's privacy policy applies to that search.
Purchases
Back to the Story Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment details. The app only checks with Apple whether Pro is unlocked.
Children
Back to the Story does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
